"Scientific Notes of the State Natural History Museum" was founded by the State Natural History Museum of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in 1951. The periodical printed scientific specialist publication "Scientific Notes of the State Museum of Natural History" has a certificate of state registration of a printed mass media with a national and foreign scope of its distribution (KB No. 17872-6722Р), issued by the Ministry of Justice on 04/14/2011. The publication has an international index ISSN 2224-025X.

By the decision of the National Council of Ukraine on Television and Radio Broadcasting dated April 11, 2024, Protocol No. 13, the State Natural History Museum of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine is registered as a subject in the field of print media. Media ID R30-03368. The name of the printed media is "Scientific notes of the State Museum of Natural History".

The journal is registered in international databases Google Scholar, Open Academic Journal Index, Directory of Research Journal Indexing; entered into the "Scientific Periodicals of Ukraine" database; an electronic copy of the journal is stored in the National Library of Ukraine named after V.I. Vernadskyi.
